The axtell series consists of very deep, moderately well drained, very slowly permeable, nearly level to strongly sloping soils on pleistocene terraces. The soil formed in clayey alluvium. Typically, the surface layer is brown and very pale brown very fine sandy loam about 8 inches thick. The subsoil is very strongly acid mottled yellowish, grayish, and brownish clay to 37 inches and neutral to moderately alkaline grayish clay in the lower part.
